Micro-inverter MicroFIT System

Rooftop obstacles and seasonal shadowing on this customer’s property required a less-conventional approach to maximise their solar at this remote cottage. The intricate layout to avoid the chimney stack and skylights made for the best approach to be using Micro-Inverter technology, allowing for every panel to be a stand alone power producer, compared to every string of panels on a conventionally wired array. This 7.5kW micro-inverter array, connected to the grid in 2015 with a 20 year MicroFIT contract, is optimally set up for peak spring, summer, and fall production, with tilt legs also installed to allow for moderate winter generation with the lower sun angles. The micro-inverters ensure every panel is operating at it’s greatest capabilities. Hindrances from shading or accumulating snowfall on parts of the array allow for electricity to still be generated, as well as a straight forward installation process without requiring excessive wiring, jumper cables, or a centralized indoor inverter.  20150915_152157

Roof Mounted MicroFIT System

Like many others after researching viable investments, these customers turned to the Ontario MicroFIT program and secured a 20 year contract for his installed 5kW roof mounted solar system. With excellent southern exposure and roof pitch, a roof installation was a no-brainer. Running the wires down into their car port along with an outdoor rated inverter, this entire MicroFIT installation from panels to electrical meter never has to pass into the house! Securing contract prices in 2015, these customers collects around $2,400 per year from IESO & Hydro One for the energy they produce, which will continue to be the case until the year 2035. Between their contractual return on his investment, the increase in property value to the house, and a 5kW conversation starter with the neighbours, they are exceedingly happy with their MicroFIT installation.  

Top of Pole Mount Net Metering System

Facing continuous increases in their monthly Hydro bills, these customers looked to subsidize their own electricity usage by taking part in the Net Metering program. Installing solar capacity and feeding it directly into their home, these customers use their own generated energy first, before buying any electricity from Hydro One in Ontario. With a sub-optimal roof orientation for their building, it was decided that a ground mount installation was the ideal solution to get solar power up and running on their property. With a total of 6kW of panels installed, this system is expected to make a major dent in their bills with an expected yearly production of over 7000kWh of generated energy, and additional room to expand in the future!
